A matched pair of grey and gold elephants, made to stand facing each other.
Each elephant is 6 inches long, 2.5 inches wide and 5 inches high, and weighs about 500 g. The pair together weighs about 1 kg. That is big enough to hold a shelf on its own, and still small enough to sit on a home mandir, a study table, a console or an office desk.
Both elephants are cast from resin blended with marble powder, then hand-painted and hand-polished. The blanket carries a fine textured pattern in gold and red. The headpiece, eyes, tusks and anklets are painted by hand, so no two pairs are exactly alike. A clear lacquer coat over the top helps hold the colour and the soft shine.
Both pieces are the same size and the same finish, mirrored so they face one another. Set them either side of a pooja ghar shelf, a temple step, an entrance console, a study table or a reception counter.
At Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali the pair works as a festive display beside the idol, a rangoli or a thali of diyas. In Indian tradition, a pair of elephants with raised trunks is believed to welcome prosperity and good fortune into a home, which also makes the set a natural choice for griha pravesh and housewarming, weddings, anniversaries and corporate gifting.
Care: wipe gently with a soft dry or damp cloth. Do not soak, and avoid harsh cleaners.
